Inspired by Tuesday... to the National Assembly

 essay image

I received a phone call from my dear friend, Muthanna Al-Hamad, and as usual, he criticizes my articles positively or negatively. Bou Talal is a first-class reader and a very critical observer, in addition to being provided with a high cultural background, and if I do not exaggerate, it is unparalleled, supported by strong memory, which I can describe with the assistance of our Egyptian brothers’ proverb "does not leak or "Perfect"". I am always happy with his comments, which are not devoid of wit and kindness. Our friend, may Allah protect him, got bored with the previous series of articles, the content of which was mostly historical and related to the heritage of Kuwait based on the documents in my possession from the archives of the father (may Allah have mercy on him). These articles may not contain excitement, but there is a lot of history and positives in this country that we, as citizens, must check and stress. This does not diminish if it is related to the history of a family or national symbols that have imprints on the history of Kuwait, and this is not a matter of bragging but rather a matter of motivating every Kuwaiti who has documents or legacies, whether these are scientific, literary, or religious, related to their families and ancestors, to write them down. This will, of course, light the way for our children and the next generation, which I cannot say has begun but is in fact in the middle of the quagmire of alienation and the loss of identity and heritage. Add to this the loss of the Arabic language and its pillars and the attempts of others to obliterate that heritage. Unfortunately, we entered Kuwait within the curve of politics, criticism, grumbling, and frustration, so we sacrificed without realizing that we live in the circle of unknown social media and accounts that do not have clear goals. My dear friend, Bou Talal, I am asking you to be a little patient because my upcoming articles will handle social and cultural matters, as the current political situation requires deliberation and wisdom. The situation is very murky and difficult to read, especially since our wise government does not make statements or speeches, as it may be following the policy of "negligence hurts" or the policy of "silents are those who survive ", allowing those fake accounts and those who claim to theorize about politics to speak freely. Such accounts are spreading hearsay, which is a misleading menace. One example I can mention here regarding this matter is what was said about a draft code of necessity to limit candidacy and voting in elections only to Kuwaitis by incorporation, and of course our friends entered the labyrinths of "yes and no", and quarrels began. Sometimes a lack of respect prevailed between some parties, and all these quarrels could reach an end with one statement from the government, but their policy is to let the people crash while they are watching. This matter requires pause and contemplation by our wise government, especially on sensitive issues such as that, but as it is said, the days are full of events. I conclude this article with a few verses from the poem of the father—may Allah have mercy on him—which may reflect and simulate our current reality, and that poem bore the name "From Tuesday’s Inspiration to the National Assembly." Through it, the depth and age of the political dispute in Kuwait’s history become clear:

O my people, did you forget our ancestors’ teachings? Who is seeking disagreement in your neighborhood?"

Did they teach you to have such disagreements, or is it a delusion that has become a commitment?

O people of wisdom, help this country with opinions in which we see a coalition.

O my people, there is no righteousness in disagreement, nor is an opinion cleared with hatred.

Life has no peace in disputes, nor does it grow when it becomes dry.

No family will have steadfastness if their reunion does not remain a detour.

My people, wake up from the slumber of disagreement and do the best to protect the lands.

be for the Amir a tool of goodness, as he recommended, in agreement and not in deviation.

He wanted you all to agree on every matter and warned you of evils that would not come to pass.

Stay safe.
